When I was first recommended to find a doula I was unaware of the difference between a doula and a midwife’s services. Although Chriset was only supposed to be my on-call doula since my original doula was out of town, and I wasn’t sure how I felt about a “stranger” attending my birth, from the moment she arrived she was anything but.
She showed up promptly with a gentle spirit ready to help me and my partner with the hard work of bringing our son earth-side. She took the time to connect with me and get to know me better as she ran me a bath, braided my hair and fed me berries while she rubbed my feet.
We spent a long time walking outside under the moonlight to help my labor progress while she applied counter pressure. She encouraged me with every step and kept me distracted with questions about myself and what I was most excited for in motherhood.
One of the most important things she did throughout my labor was teach my partner several ways to best support me and helped to get him involved in the birth of our son. When it seemed like we had made enough progress she contacted the midwives and my primary doula to let them know that we were ready to head into the birth center.
She knew how much it meant to me to have an unmedicated & natural birth with my midwives. Even though there were definitely moments that she could see were VERY difficult for me she helped me to persevere and accomplish my goal.
Birth is not for weenies! I love Chriset and I appreciate her reverence for me and the support & patience that she gave to me. The hard work and love that she put in really made all the difference in my journey through birth.
She made me feel like a queen and every time i reflect on the experience and look back on the MANY beautiful photos that she captured throughout my labor, she will be remembered and held close to my grateful heart for making my birth dreams come true.
If you are in need of a doula please consider hiring her! I can’t imagine how it would have gone without her tender care and support.
